Big Foot Bunny

Knitted Big Foot Bunny during this year's Easter. Thought of giving it away as a prize for Easter egg hunt held at Jane's house. In the end, couldn't bear to give it away. Probably, next year's Easter???

Big Bobby - Arty's Birthday Present

For Arty's 4th birthday, I made him a cute monster named Big Bobby. Added some green and purple spots to brighten him up.

Dinosaurs Delight!

Both Joshua Ong (my son) and Joshua Tan (Sew Peng's son) are best friends. They share many common interests: drawing, dinosaurs, Ben10..... In fact, it was Joshua Tan who taught Josh the word "Spinosaurus" which became one of Josh's favourite dinosaurs which led me to knitting one for him. Joshua Tan's favourite was T-rex, so for his birthday, he received one this year.

Ellie the Elephant - a Birthday present for Alena

Blue seems to be my favourite colour or maybe because it's such a nice colour to be used for knitting soft toys for kids! I made the tail using three different shades of blue coloured yarns. I used felt in making Ellie's ears. Since it's a present for a little girl, I have added an orange felted flower (another signature of mine) to complete the look. Happy 3rd Birthday, Alena!

Miniature Teddy Bears

This is another favourite of mine but it's a tougher project compared to Scrappy, the puppy. I have made them in normal, coloured yarn as well as fancy yarns. You need lots of patience when using fancy yarns because it's quite tricky when increasing stitches. Also, texture of yarn makes it harder to see each stitch but it also covers up mistakes too! After making them, you can personalise each bear with accessories: scarf, flowers, hearts etc..... using your imagination.

My Favourite Knitted Toy - Scrappy the Puppy

This is a real easy project that can be knitted within a day or at most 2 days. I have made them in different coloured yarns. They have been given away to Jordan's and Josh's teachers as Teacher's Day presents. I have gave some to mother-child from our Faith Montessori group. Recipents include Cheryl-Damon, Kristiina-Arty, Jane-Joseph, Rebecca-Amanda, Shilpa-Anya, Sapna-Anushka. Remember the Ong family when you see Scrappy, my dear friends!

Major project - Vest with matching hat, mittens for Yan Sze

In Apr 2005, Yan Sze left Singapore to work for a Hong Kong company with a factory based in Shenzhen, China. He will experience his first winter at end of the year. Decided to embark on a major project - knitting a vest with matching hat and mittens. It will be quite a task because I have not done anything that involves more than 2 balls of yarn! Moreover, it was a surprise so can't take his measurements or have him fitted to make adjutments. AHHH! The agonising months of dropped stitches, unravellin yarn to correct mistakes...... made worse by fact that I could only work on them at night when kids are in bed and household chores are done. Finally, it was finished and in time. I made it! Usually Yan Sze is camera shy but seeing how much hard work I have put in, he willingly posed in pictures!

My 2nd Knitted Toy - Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty was my second knitted toy. He formed one half of a pair. Just wanted to try out joining different coloured yarns to knit a single project. It was quite a challenge but totally enjoyable! Later, in the following year, Humpty was joined by his other half (yes, it took me that long to let him meet his other half. He was oh.... so lonely!) to be given away as a wedding present for my hubby, Yan Sze's niece's Olivia.

Shawls, shrugs, ponchos

There was a time when I was into a knitting frenzy: shrugs, shawls, ponchos.... made with different stitch patterns! Gave them to my dear sisters (3 of them) and friends.

My First Knitted Toy - Teddy Bear

While learning my knitting basics, I attempted making my first soft toy which was a teddy bear. It stands at 14 inches, in pale yellow. Was given a pattern for teddy bear sweater by teacher. Right timing! I think teddy bear looks a bit overdressed in blue sweater and pink booties! Revamped her looks on February, 2008: purple scarf and felted flowers. Gave her to new-found friend, Jane to celebrate our friendship. Remember to christen her, Jane!

My First Project

My very first project when I started my knitting basics was a wollen hat. It is a bright yellow colour. The stitches were quite loose, so it was big even for an adult fit. My daughter Jordan was my model for it.

How it all started

I have always associated knitting with sweaters, scarves and images of grandmas on rocking chairs. It was by chance that I came across a knitting book on soft toys. They looked simply adorable on those pages. I set my heart on making them my own. So I bought the book there and then. Sadly, with demands of work and motherhood, it took a backseat. After the birth of my second child in 2002, I quit my job to become a full-time mother. It was then I decided to renew my love for knitting. The search for a teacher begins! All the knitting shops I approached turned down my request, they only teach making of knitted garment and using Japanese method. I was almost ready to give up when I saw Spotlight at Plaza Singapura offering knitting class. So my journey to knitting started. I have to contend with the basics of learning how to knit scarf, hat, booties and mittens. At home, I was busy trying out pattern for making a teddy bear. I was making 2-3 projects at a time and plaguing my teacher with so many questions. Her remarks, "You are attending a basic class but asking me questions meant for intermediate to advanced level." That was the pace I was going at, to learn the most at shortest possible time. Ha, my dream is finally coming true!
